Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting to another Archie Gray display playing as a central defender in their 5-0 win over Southampton.
Gray helped Spurs keep just their fourth clean sheet in the Premier League this season as the Lilwyhites ran riot at St Mary’s. The North London club defeated Southampton 5-0 with all of the goals being scored in the first half.
Ange Postecoglou was forced to field a rather makeshift Tottenham team against the Saints with 18-year-old Gray playing for just the third time as a centre-back.
Tottenham fans laud Archie Gray vs Southampton
Tottenham supporters were left super impressed by Archie Gray’s performance against Southampton. The Lilywhites faithful were particularly moved by the maturity he showed for such a young player.
It’s quite easy to forget that Gray is only 18 given the responsibility he is being trusted with by the manager to fill so many different roles. The former Leeds man has played in four different positions since arriving in North London.
Whether it’s been right-back, left-back, centre-back or midfield, Gray has looked comfortable playing whether and that is quite something in itself. Hopefully at some stage this season his patience will be rewarded with a run of games in his more natural role of midfield.
Following Tottenham’s biggest win of the season, the club’s fans took to X to share their appreciation for their £40 million man.
One supporter said: “Archie Gray! The determination to prevent a consolation at the end! That’s the stuff innit. What a player.”
Continue to be impressed by Archie Gray, who’s been played all over the place but handles it with such composure. Really excited for him to get some consistent minutes in midfield,” added another fan.
Archie Gray’s insane passing stat vs Southampton
Gray finished the game with an incredible 97 percent pass accuracy against the Saints as he completed a staggering 90 passes out of a total of 93. The teenager has such great technical ability and this was very much on show on the South Coast.
Gray has shown so much talent playing all the way across the back line and his exceptional ability on the ball shows he should be soon ready for minutes in midfield. Tottenham need a long-term solution to Yves Bissouma and he could be the perfect number six.
