Tottenham now leading race to sign player who could become the new Gareth Bale - opinion
????
Tottenham are now at the front of the queue to sign a player who could develop into the next Gareth Bale.
Spurs have overseen impressive business in recent windows, moving smartly to snap up some top talents who could become leading players of their generation, such as Destiny Udogie, Pape Sarr, Micky van de Ven and Lucas Bergvall.
Now, Tottenham are leading the race to sign another tremendous prospect, someone we believe has the traits to emulate Gareth Bale‘s rise in N17…
Tottenham lead race to sign Marcus Vinnicius
A story from Premier League Brasil now states that Tottenham are leading Newcastle, Wolves and Benfica in the race to sign Marcus Vinnicius from Palmeiras.
The 17-year-old is a fantastic prospect, with many at Palmeiras believing he is the next gem to emerge after the recent rise of Endrick and Estevao Willian – the latter of whom is joining Chelsea in a £51m move.
Premier League Brasil explain how Vinnicius is a “tall” player who also boasts “good technique” – while the South American news outlet call him a “fast” wide man as well.
The teenager is predominantly a left-back, but he can also play on the left of attack.
Spurs could sign the new Gareth Bale
The aforementioned traits sound very simply to those possessed by a young Bale.
During his time at Tottenham, the Welshman started out as a skinny, athletic left-back, albeit one who clearly possessed an incredible turn of pace, as well as a solid physique and good technical ability.
That is almost exactly how Premier League Brasil describe Vinnicius, so if the Brazilian does end up moving to Spurs and fulfils his obvious potential, we could be looking at a similar breakthrough to the one Bale enjoyed in N17.
Vinnicius would have to be patient under Ange Postecoglou, with the aforementioned Udogie the outright No.1 option on the left of defence, although the Italy international is a brilliant player who could teach the South American a lot.
Spurs also lack depth in that area – Postecoglou even used Oliver Skipp on the left at the end of last season – so Vinnicius could be handed the domestic cup competitions to develop his skills, if a move to north London materialises.
