Rangers fans will be demanding a positive result against Tottenham Hotspur, managed by former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, believes Lee McCulloch.
Speaking to STV (9 December), the BBC pundit believes that Gers are the highest point of their season after recent results while Spurs are at their lowest, so it’s a great time to be facing them on 12 December at Ibrox.
Philippe Clement’s side are on the back of four straight wins, the most recent one being the 3-0 win over Ross County on 8 December.
“They’re playing against a team that’s in arguably the best league in the world,” McCulloch said. “They’ve got some tremendous individual players.
“But they are under a bit of pressure just now.
“So as much as we’re saying it’s good timing for us because this is arguably the highest part of our season so far, it’s also arguably the lowest part of their season.
“I think it’s a great time to get them.
“It will be a great experience for the players against that standard of opposition.
“But when you’re a Rangers player then expectations are there every time you step on to the pitch. So the fans will be demanding a positive result.”
Rangers can certainly pull off an upset against Tottenham
Gers will approach their match against Tottenham with a mixture of respect and optimism, especially given their recent form and the electric atmosphere at Ibrox.
Clement’s side, riding the wave of four consecutive victories, including a convincing win over Ross County, have demonstrated resilience and quality.
The team’s performance in European competitions lately has not only boosted their confidence but also shown their capability to rise to the occasion against elite opposition.
With Spurs potentially at a low ebb under Postecoglou, this could be the perfect storm for Rangers.
The home advantage at Ibrox, where the fans’ support can be a 12th man, might just tip the scales.
Gers fans, known for their high expectations, will demand nothing less than a positive result and the players, buoyed by their recent successes and the psychological edge of facing a faltering Tottenham, will be keen to deliver an upset.
In other Rangers news, the club aim to finalise the summer signing of a player they view as a long-term first-team regular.
