Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a lot of headlines in recent months as his Liverpool contract ticks towards its expiration.
Alexander-Arnold’s deal is up at the end of the season, and many are concerned that the defender is going to leave Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, and his high-profile friendship with Jude Bellingham is only adding fuel to that fire.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are in the same boat, but their contract situations are seemingly much more positive.
Indeed, Salah’s contract talks are going well, while Liverpool are confident that Van Dijk will sign a new deal.
Meanwhile, we haven’t heard all that many updates on Alexander-Arnold’s contract, and, in this case, silence may not be golden.
However, speaking to Sky Sports, the defender has now touched on his Liverpool contract, and he says that no matter what happens, these negotiations definitely won’t be played out publicly.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will keep contract talks private
The full-back spoke about his Liverpool contract and negotiations with the club.
The defender says that every single time he’s signed a new deal, the negotiations have been private, and this scenario won’t be played out in public either.
The England star says that he won’t give away any clues on his status at Liverpool, and he kept his cards very close to his chest here.
“I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either,” Alexander-Arnold said.
How could Liverpool replace Trent Alexander-Arnold?
Alexander-Arnold’s comments here aren’t going to alleviate any of the concerns Liverpool fans have about the defender leaving to join Real Madrid.
That said, if Alexander-Arnold does leave the club, Liverpool do have some replacements in mind.
Jeremie Frimpong has been strongly linked to Liverpool recently, and that is an intriguing idea to say the least.
Meanwhile, young Porto defender, Martim Fernandes is on Liverpool’s radar too.
Fernandes and Frimpong’s stats in an attacking sense are certainly comparable to Alexander-Arnold’s.

Conor Bradley may also play a part in Liverpool’s succession plan here. After all, Bradley has earned huge praise for his performances this season.
As Alexander-Arnold says, this situation won’t be played out publicly, so there’s no saying if he will leave or if he will stay yet, but the fact that a new deal is yet to be signed is only going to add to the speculation around this situation.
