Tyrell Malacia 'lost under Ruben Amorim' - Man United fans react to Euro axe

Tyrell Malacia was hooked at half time by new Man United boss Ruben Amorim against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night as fans branded him “not good enough”.

Having missed the whole of last season due to an ongoing knee problem, the left-back made his return to first-team action in that European tie at Old Trafford, after a recent outing for the Under 21s.

With this Ruben Amorim’s first home game in charge of the Red Devils on 28 November, he will have been keen to win over his new supporters.

Malacia was handed the left-wing back role in the 39-year-old’s perefrred 3-4-3 formation in the starting XI for that game.

However, it would prove to be a tricky return to action for the 25-year-old, to the considerable frustration and concern for the Man United fanbase.

Things initially started well for Malacia and his teammates, with Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho pouncing on opposition goalkeeper Nikita Haikin to go 1-0 inside a minute.

Two goals in four minutes midway through the half turned the game on its head, with Hakon Evjen producing a stunning finish to equalise for the visitors.

Malacia then came under scrutiny as Bodo/Glimt got their second, finding himself one on one with Philip Zinckernagel on the left-hand side.

The Man United man was out muscled and out paced by the winger, allowing him to break into the area, from where he fired into the bottom corner.

It was a moment that left supporters of the club unimpressed with Malacia, as did the number of chances he missed to send crosses into the area when attacking as well.

He was branded “awful” and scarily below the required standard and “lost” under Amorim’s tactics.
