David Moyes was blown away by Amad Diallo’s assist for Marcus Rashford as Everton fell to a 4-0 loss against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Blues travelled to Old Trafford [1 December] hoping to build from the 0-0 draw against Brentford last weekend, but were torn apart by the hosts as Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee scored a brace a piece.
However, Rashford’s second goal caught Moyes’ eye on Match of the Day 2 [1 December, 36m 40s] as Diallo’s pass carved open the Everton defence.
He said: “[Joshua] Zirkzee then links it up, played out, and allows Diallo to get forward. And again, just a bit better defending by Everton, but an unbelievable weighted pass which allows Rashford to get the chance to score.”
Everton suffering problems at both ends of the pitch
Sean Dyche, the supporters, the players – everyone is running out of steam at Everton Football Club.
This train is heading towards its inevitable demise, and with the fixtures not getting any easier after the trip to Old Trafford, the fear of relegation is lingering over Goodison Park; unlike previous years, it appears the luck is running out on Merseyside.
The usual defensive resilience of a Dyche side was non-existent. James Tarkowski looked “about 90 years old” as he failed to keep pace with the Manchester United onslaught, and even the “one-man defence” of Jarrad Branthwaite couldn’t maintain his usual high standards as he papered over the cracks of the leaky defence.
Every time the Blues looked dangerous at Old Trafford, the supporters knew the players would find a way to break it down, whether that be a misplaced pass, a wrong pass or no pass at all, the attacking threat – just as the defence – was non-existent.
Dyche executed the bold decision of selecting Beto to lead the line on Sunday, and justifiably so; Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been abysmal this year as he runs down the final year of his contract, but Beto was no better at Old Trafford – it may be time to press the panic button at Goodison Park.
Therefore, all the supporters can hope for now is that The Friedkin Group swiftly completes the takeover and hopefully stops the chaos on Merseyside before the campaign is well and truly doomed.
Next up, a rejuvenated Wolves side followed by the Merseyside derby and clashes against Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and this year’s surprise package Nottingham Forest heading into the New Year – this could get ugly for Dyche.
