Tottenham star Brennan Johnson failed to impress for Wales against Turkey on Saturday and was left “embarrassed” on one occasion.
Johnson played 90 minutes before being replaced by Lewis Koumas late on as Wales played out a 0-0 draw with Turkey in the UEFA Nations League on 16 November but was far from his best.
The 23-year-old was also shown a yellow card just nine minutes into the game for a pettish foul on Baris Alper Yilmaz, which Nathan Blake thought was a result of him being “bullied”.
“It’s almost like in that situation there, you can see he’s been bullied a bit, a little bit embarrassed, he just petulantly kicks you”, the former Wales international said live on BBC Radio Wales [16 November, 17:09].
Brennan Johnson is ‘Embarrassed’ after what he did away from Tottenham
Johnson has been in fine form for Spurs this season, bagging seven goals and an assist in 17 games across all competitions, but failed to maintain those standards for Wales on Saturday.
Starting on the right side of the attack for the visitors, he was not as involved as he would liked, registering only 30 touches of the ball and completing 13 of his 15 passes [FotMob].
He attempted just two dribbles but failed on both occasions, thus summing up his performance.
Johnson was also unconvincing in duels as he lost four of his six attempts, with 33 per cent success.
While his only attempted tackle saw him receive a yellow card, he managed to register eight defensive actions, including five clearances. Ultimately, his performance left much to be desired.
Johnson will have the opportunity to set things right when Wales face Montenegro in their final Nations League group-stage game on Tuesday [19 November].
The former Nottingham Forest man has proven critics wrong on multiple occasions at Tottenham this season and there is no reason why he cannot do the same for Wales.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are plotting a January bid for this La Liga star after sending scouts to watch him.
