Everton earned a thumping 4-0 victory over Wolves in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
Ashley Young opened the scoring for the Toffees with a sublime free-kick goal in the 10th minute, while Orel Mangala put them in a comfortable position by doubling the lead 23 minutes later.
Two Craig Dawson own goals in the second half then saw Sean Dyche’s side cruise to a comfortable victory on 4 December.
Here are our player ratings for the game:
James Pickford – 8
Pickford got off to a good start, denying Matheus Cunha with a strong left hand in the eighth minute. He pulled off another great save 20 minutes later to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Ashley Young faultless for Everton
Ashley Young – 9
Young ended the Toffees’ four-game goal drought in spectacular fashion, putting the ball in the bottom-right corner from a free-kick. The veteran looked like a hot prospect as he put in a faultless shift, popping up with contributions at both ends of the pitch.
James Tarkowski – 8
Tarkowski, who had a game to forget against Manchester United, thought he had put the hosts two in front when he headed home a Dwight McNeil free-kick in the 16th minute, but unfortunately had the goal disallowed after Orel Mangala was adjudged to be blocking Mario Lemina from an offside position. The defender breathed a sigh of relief as Pickford saved Strand Larsen’s shot after getting the better of him in the six-yard box.
However, he came on top on another occasion in the first half, making a great interception to deny danger from Cunha. The 32-year-old continued to be a dominant figure in the box, getting a toe onto Matt Doherty’s headed attempt on goal and diverting the ball towards the post.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 7
Branthwaite was not involved as his centre-back partner, but finely intercepted a Cunha pass into the danger area at the one-hour mark. The 22-year-old seemed to be in discomfort, raising fears of another injury setback, although he played the 90 minutes.
Vitalii Mykolenko – 6
Mykolenko had a quiet evening as Dyche and co. cruised to a comfortable win against Wolves.
Idrissa Gueye – 6
Gueye was not as involved as Mangala but put in a tidy shift in midfield.
Orel Mangala scores first Everton goal
Orel Mangala – 7
Mangala netted his first goal for Everton, finding the left corner of the net with a first-time shot from the edge of the box, albeit with the help of a deflection. He had his name taken seconds later for a foul just outside the penalty area.
Dwight McNeil [Off for Harrison 74′] – 8
McNeil was unlucky not to get an assist in the first half after Tarkowski’s goal was disallowed, but was the creator for the Toffees’ third as Dawson put the ball in the back of his own net following a corner. The same was the case when the defender scored another own goal.
Abdoulaye Doucoure [Off for Doucoure 83′] – 7
Starting in an advanced position in midfield, Doucoure was surprisingly not involved in any of the four goals, but hardly put a foot wrong.
Iliman Ndiaye – 6
After having a largely quiet evening, Ndiaye thought he had scored in the 64th minute, but the goal was disallowed after Dominic Calvert-Lewin was deemed to have fouled Jose Sa.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin unlucky
Dominic Calvert-Lewin [Off for Broja 83′] – 7
Calvert-Lewin deserves credit for earning the free-kick that led to Young’s opener as he chased a loose ball before being fouled by Santiago Bueno. The striker then did enough to make Dawson turn the ball into his own net early in the second half. He was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet in the game as the Wolves player scored another against his own team.
Substitutes
Jack Harrison [On for McNeil 74′]- 5
Armando Broja [On for Calvert-Lewin 83′] – 6
Jesper Lindstrom [On for Doucoure 83′] – 5
Harrison Armstrong [On for Mangala 89′] – NA
