Dejan Kulusevski has quickly grown into one of Ange Postecoglou’s most important players at Tottenham.

The 24-year-old has started seven of Spurs’ eight Premier League matches so far, notching two goals and one assist, and also being rested during the easier round of Europa League fixtures.

Reading between the lines, Postecoglou made it clear which players are more important for his style of football, having hooked James Maddison at the half-time break during the win over West Ham.

With Mohammed Kudus and Kulusevski exchanging goals in the first 45 minutes, something needed to change at the break, but eyebrows were raised when Maddison was the player to make way.

However, the change allowed the Swedish forward to be unleashed in the final third, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr battling in the midfield, and he cannot be dropped for any vital clashes anytime soon.

Dejan Kulusevski becomes main man at Tottenham

Against the Hammers, Kulusevski maintained an 85 per cent passing accuracy, often going on a mazy run, completing 40 per cent of his dribbles, spraying out 100 per cent accurate long balls and also scoring [FotMob].

He also put in a shift defensively, too, winning 100 per cent of his tackles, making eight recoveries, entering into 16 ground duels, and winning three fouls.

The 24-year-old’s impact was clear for all to see, with Alan Shearer including him in his Premier League Team of the Week [22 October], writing: “He continued his terrific form, causing havoc and getting on the scoresheet. The best player on the pitch.”

Kulusevski was absolutely the best player on the field, and that trend is only likely to increase as the season continues at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Despite the praise, there are still areas of his football that can improve, like only ranking in the top 62 percentile for non-penalty goals and the bottom 31 percentile for assists [FBref].

If the attacker can improve on these two aspects of his game, he will become an unstoppable force for Postecoglou and Tottenham.

In other Tottenham news, a 44% Spurs star is still lacking in one key area as the “biggest concern” was mooted v West Ham.
