Tottenham fans will be buzzing to see Lucas Bergvall in the starting XI as Tottenham face Qarabag FK on Thursday (26 September).

Ange Postecoglou has made six changes from the 3-1 win over Brentford, as confirmed by the club’s X account [26 September], seeing Archie Gray, Radu Dragusin, Ben Davies, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Bergvall come into the side.

The latter will be the most exciting, given his lack of playing time so far after impressing during the pre-season tour, with Dejan Kulusevski making way for the youngster.

Lucas Bergvall given opportunity in Tottenham v Qarabag FK

Fans have been desperate to see Bergvall be given a chance since arriving from Djurgarden this summer, but he has only been allowed 33 minutes of Premier League football in four appearances.

He was given a rare start against Coventry City in the EFL Cup, and despite being hooked after 68 minutes, he should have persuaded Postecoglou that he is ready for more minutes.

The 18-year-old completed 87 per cent of his passes and 100 per cent of his long balls.

He was also successful with 100 per cent of his tackles (2/2), and made five recoveries against the Championship outfit [FotMob] in a solid all-round display.

While playing in the Europa League is a whole different animal for the young midfielder, Qarabag should give him the perfect opportunity to stake his claim for more minutes in the Spurs starting XI.

With all three midfielders axed from the 3-1 win over Brentford, Bergvall looks to have replaced Dejan Kulusevski, who was not at the races on Saturday (21 September).

The 24-year-old winger, who was pushed back into the middle of the park, could only win 12 per cent of his ground duels (1/8), was dribbled past twice and was dispossessed three times [FotMob].

Bergvall has now been given the perfect opportunity to prove himself in midfield, and could certainly earn more game time if he impresses in Azerbaijan.

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou cannot afford ‘Big Blow’ as Spurs ace could be out until late December.
