View: Ange gets it wrong as 40% Tottenham star starts v Brentford

Ange Postecoglou has named Dominic Solanke in his confirmed Spurs team to take on Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (21 September).

Postecoglou’s men need a big performance against the Bees.

Despite beating Coventry City 2-1 in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (18 September), the North London side’s performance was far from convincing.

Therefore, Postecoglou and his players will be looking to put things right and get back on track in the Premier League.

They have just four points after four matches in the competition, having been beaten 1-0 by Arsenal last time out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (15 September).

As a result, many will view this match against Brentford as a must-win. However, if they are to win, Solanke will need to show much more after Spurs confirmed the striker was starting via the club’s official X account (21 September).

Dominic Solanke must improve for Tottenham v Brentford

It has not been the ideal start for Solanke in a Spurs shirt. The striker has played three matches, failed to score, and seen his season disrupted by an injury issue.

Therefore, he will be hoping to get off the mark with a big performance against Brentford. However, Postecoglou could regret starting the 27-year-old based on his performance against Coventry City.

On that occasion, Solanke failed to register a single shot at goal while he also won just 40 per cent of the aerial duels he contested, largely being handled well by the Coventry defence (Sofascore).

In addition, he was successful with just 50 per cent of his dribbles and only managed 24 touches of the ball. He completed 82 per cent of his passes, with just one of those key, and won just five of his 11 ground duels.

There will of course be an expectation on Postecoglou to start Solanke due to the big fee he cost. However, the striker will need to start firing sooner rather than later.

In other Tottenham news, one “outstanding” academy gem could be a long-term solution for a Postecoglou problem.
