Ange Postecoglou will be concerned about Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke as he is set to be included in the England squad.
Solanke made a slow start to life in a Spurs shirt following his arrival at the club from Bournemouth.
The striker missed two of the club’s first three matches of the season through injury and failed to find the back of the net until his fourth appearance for Tottenham.
However, since opening his account for the club in the 3-1 win over Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (21 September), the 27-year-old hasn’t looked back.
He has three goals in as many games, most recently scoring in the 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford (29 September). As a result, Postecoglou will be delighted that his big-money signing is finally finding his feet.
Therefore, the news of Solanke being set to be called up for England, while a welcome boost for him personally, might be a concern for his club manager.
David Ornstein exclusively revealed via X on Thursday (3 October) that the Spurs star will be part of the Three Lions squad for UEFA Nations League matches against Greece (10 October) and Finland (13 October).
And after one previous injury issue already this season, Postecoglou will be watching on anxiously, hoping that Solanke returns from international duty fit and firing, especially with the injury issues the Australian is already facing in North London.
Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke to feature for England?
With ex-Spurs striker Harry Kane the main man for England and Lee Carsley, there is no guarantee Solanke will get many minutes during the October international break.
However, if he does, Postecoglou will be desperate for him to stay fit, as any injury now could seriously threaten to derail the momentum Solanke is building in North London.
In addition to his three goals in as many matches, Solanke’s overall play has been positive as of late too, particularly against Manchester United, a match in which one of the striker’s teammates stood out after what he did.
As per Sofascore, the forward succeeded with 100 per cent of his dribble attempts, while he also completed 88 per cent of his passes, with one of those key.
He proved to be a good target man and outlet for the visitors at Old Trafford, winning two of his three aerial duels. Solanke also won one foul for his side and chipped in defensively where needed, making three clearances.
The striker continually got into good positions, evidenced by the fact he missed two big chances in addition to the goal he scored. Therefore, if he can become slightly more clinical, there is no doubt he will score a bucketload of goals under Postecoglou.
However, he can’t do that if he isn’t on the pitch. Therefore, while everybody connected with Spurs will no doubt wish him international success, their main concern will be getting the striker back in tip-top condition.
In other Tottenham news, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been name-dropped as the club enter “advanced” investment talks.
