Ange Postecoglou will be sweating over the fitness of Tottenham defender Ben Davies.

Spurs are already without several key defenders, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both still sidelined.

Radu Drăgușin and Davies have been playing at centre-back together in their absence. However, it looks as though Postecoglou could now be without the Welshman as well after he was forced off in Spurs’ disappointing 1-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday [5 December].

Davies was replaced by Pedro Porro, who was surprisingly left out ahead of kick-off, in the 62nd minute, and as per Alasdair Gold via X [5 December], it “Looks like a hamstring injury for [Ben] Davies”, which could prove to be quite troublesome.

It would leave Postecoglou incredibly short of options when Chelsea visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday [8 December], which will only add to the concern.

Ben Davies suffers hamstring injury at Tottenham?

Davies has proven to be an important squad player for Spurs in recent weeks, and the club have recognised that form with a recent contract decision [via The Athletic, 27 November].

However, the defender wasn’t at his best on the South Coast on Thursday, picking up a booking in the fourth minute.

As per Sofascore, while he did complete 91 per cent of his passes, and make one clearance and block one shot, he also won just one of his three ground duels and 50 per cent of his aerial duels (three out of six).

In addition, he committed two fouls and gave possession away three times.

However, while it wasn’t his finest performance, Spurs don’t have many other centre-back options at the moment, which will be the most pressing concern for Postecoglou.

Therefore, if the 31-year-old is ruled out against Chelsea on Sunday, things could get quite ugly in North London.
