Ange Postecoglou could axe James Maddison when Tottenham host Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
Spurs could move as high as third in the Premier League with victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (10 November).
However, there are likely to be a lot of tired legs and minds within the squad after the North London side were beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League at RAMS Park on Thursday (7 November).
Therefore, changes will need to be made, and Postecoglou has some big decisions to make.
Ange Postecoglou to axe James Maddison for Tottenham v Ipswich Town
Guglielmo Vicario is expected to return between the sticks in place of Fraser Forster.
In defence, Ange Postecoglou will hope to welcome Cristian Romero back after the Spurs boss’ update on the centre-back (via Football London, 7 November).
The Argentine will likely start alongside Radu Drăgușin, despite the 22-year-old’s “horrendous” night against Galatasaray. As per Sofascore, Drăgușin made one error leading to a goal, completed just 71 per cent of his passes and won just 50 per cent of his ground duels.
Destiny Udogie will likely return at left-back while Pedro Porro will expect to start at right-back. Porro also didn’t have his best night at RAMS Park, twice being dribbled past and giving possession away 14 times. However, he did also provide an assist and is the club’s recognised starting right-back.
In midfield is where Postecoglou might make wholesale changes. Lucas Bergvall had a night to forget in Istanbul, completing just 61 per cent of his passes and winning only 20 per cent of his ground duels. He will likely make way for Rodrigo Bentancur, who made a difference off the bench in Turkey, winning five ground duels and making three tackles.
Meanwhile, Yves Bissouma could be replaced by Pape Matar Sarr to freshen things up, while Maddison is likely to miss out on another Premier League team.
The Englishman succeeded with just 25 per cent of his attempted dribbles and won just 50 per cent of his ground duels, while also being dribbled past once against Galatasaray. Therefore, he could make way for Dejan Kulusevski, who was hailed for his impact off the bench.
Ange Postecoglou to recall Dominic Solanke for Tottenham v Ipswich Town
Brennan Johnson will likely keep his place despite an underwhelming performance against Galatasaray, which saw him hooked at half-time.
Son Heung-min also struggled on the left, completing just 73 per cent of his passes, failing with his one dribble attempt and making one error which led to a shot. However, Postecoglou is limited in that area of the pitch, and while likely stand by Son, especially considering the South Korean played just 45 minutes in Turkey.
Up front Dominic Solanke should return to the starting lineup. Will Lankshear had a mixed night in Istanbul, scoring his first Spurs goal before being sent off.
The striker was hailed for his overall display after the match. However, Solanke was also praised for his impact, as he grabbed a goal off the bench, and the 27-year-old will most likely lead the line on Sunday.
