View: Ashley Young could be all but finished at Everton as Finch Farm footage emerges today

Ashley Young could be done at Goodison Park after pictures of Nathan Patterson in Everton training were shared.

The Scot has struggled with injury in recent months which has seen him fail to make an appearance for the Toffees since 15 April against Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has featured across three matches for the academy side, playing 90 minutes in each as he looks to rebuild his fitness.

Patterson has now been spotted in training images shared by Everton via X on 10 October which could see Young suffer for game time moving forward.

The former Aston Villa star has been a steady operator under Sean Dyche and has plugged holes in his side, featuring in a variety of positions.

This has seen the ex-England international start in both full back roles and even in the midfield when called upon.

At 39 years old, the one-time Premier League champion is approaching the latter stages of his career and potentially needs to be phased out in favour of a younger player.

Young has started five of the Toffees’ seven league games so far this campaign, conceding eight goals in that time while being sent off against Brighton.

Dyche could have the opportunity to bring Patterson into the starting XI and start to utilise the former Manchester United man as a substitute option.

This isn’t out of disrespect for the versatile defender but the 22-year-old signed from Rangers needs to be afforded more opportunities to develop at Goodison.

There is every chance that he can get better with more minutes whereas you know what you’re going to get from Young.
