Daniel Levy is once again at risk of upsetting supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is very rare that a Levy decision isn’t followed by fan unrest or some sort of frustration.

In June alone there were three Tottenham announcements which wouldn’t have been received warmly by supporters.

Both the home and away kit releases were overshadowed by what Alasdair Gold described via X (4 June) as “mad” pricing, while matchday ticket prices also increased.

And once again Levy is likely to have upset a fair few Spurs supporters, although for very different reasons.

As per the club’s official website (1 July), Spurs have agreed a new partnership with BetMGM.

The statement reads, “The brand will become the Club’s Official Betting Partner for both the men’s and women’s team, and the Official Front of Training Wear Partner for the men’s team.”

“Through the partnership, BetMGM will feature on media backdrops and the men’s first team training kit during Premier League, domestic cup and European fixtures.

“Additionally, BetMGM will be highlighted on pitchside LEDs and big screens at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”

While on the surface this seems like a pretty standard partnership agreement, due to a recent Premier League decision, this announcement might make some fans uncomfortable.

It is not uncommon to see betting companies work alongside Premier League clubs. However, that is set to change.

As per the Premier League’s official website (13 April 2023), from the end of the 2025/26 season onward, clubs in England’s top flight have agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts.

It is a decision which has been made to help reduce gambling advertising.

Therefore, while Spurs haven’t broken any rules in any way, this decision to partner with BetMGM might still make supporters feel uncomfortable.

Continuing to work alongside a betting company, even at a time when the Premier League is clearly making efforts to reduce such partnerships, might not sit well with some supporters.

No rules have been broken, but perhaps this decision wasn’t the best one from a moral standpoint.

In other Tottenham news, the club will consider a summer transfer for one international player as an asking price is shared.
