The Friedkin Group will be keen to wipe the slate clean once they complete their purchase of Everton from Farhad Moshiri.

Finances under the current owner have been an awful topic of conversation at Goodison Park over the last few years, with the Toffees plunged into debt.

Sean Dyche’s team have taken most of the brunt for those debts on the pitch, especially last season when the Toffees were deducted a total of eight points for two separate PSR issues.

Of course, the team eventually moved away from the relegation spots and finished 14 points clear of the dropzone last term following a number of crucial results.

However, Dyche and his players are back in a sticky situation, with only two points separating them from 18th-place Ipswich Town, and the financial crisis is not any better either.

There is even a potential third points deduction on its way to Goodison Park [The Times].

Moshiri still has a £451million loan with the Toffees, and while he has pledged to convert this into shares to avoid any further PSR breaches [The Guardian], that is still a lot of money to be hanging over the club.

Friedkin Group to turn to Everton squad for financial relief

While player wages look minimal compared to the amount of money owed elsewhere, the numbers can really stack up with several high earners in the squad.

Many fans are frustrated by Dominic Calvert-Lewin as his performances continue to decline in front of goal, and rightly so, but it has appeared that another player must be dealt with first by the Friedkins.

According to The Athletic, Michael Keane, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign, is one of the club’s top earners and is unlikely to be offered a “comparable” new deal.

Obviously, finding a permanent exit in January could be the ideal solution, at least getting some sort of transfer fee back, but a new deal for the 31-year-old should not be one of the possible outcomes.

Despite being a regular under Dyche this season, and making somewhat of a comeback on the pitch, Jake O’Brien and Jarrad Branthwaite are far better options, and the Friedkins will likely bring someone new in.

While there with be many big decisions to make once the takeover is complete, including what to do about Dyche’s future, Keane should be one of the first people out the Goodison Park exit doors.

In other Everton news, the Friedkins must poach a Premier League side’s CEO for his necessary takeover knowledge.
