Everton could benefit from offering Armando Broja a start against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
With the Toffees resolute as a defensive unit but struggling for goals, the recently-returned Albanian striker could be the ticket to a more successful output going forward.
As illustrated by the Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas [28 December], Broja enjoyed a “clever” cameo as Sean Dyche’s side grabbed a point at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City on Boxing Day.
“It was a different game when loan forward Broja arrived on the scene, with Man City desperately searching for a winner,” Thomas explained.
“Nevertheless, the Albania international once again provided a useful cameo and his clever stoppage-time spin forced Phil Foden to haul him down and earned the visitors precious respite.”
Everton should mix up attack v Nottingham Forest
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin enduring a consistently barren run in front of goal and Everton struggling to find a springboard to create regular chances, a swap up top could be long required.
For months, Beto was the only real outlet of change if Dyche didn’t fancy Calvert-Lewin, but now Broja is showing glimmers of hope when he appears on the pitch and has shown he can deliver in the Premier League during previous loans from Chelsea.
To add to that, Forest are an excellent defensive side themselves, with Nuno Espirito Santo having really struck a chord with his backline, which includes the impressive pairing of Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic.
The duo will be preparing to face Calvert-Lewin, but a surprise sprung from the blue corner could throw a spanner in the works and give Nuno’s men plenty more to consider at the back.
Calvert-Lewin’s style of play appears as though it would play more into the hands of a Forest defence who can be technical and physical in equal measures; Broja’s tenacity and technical qualities could offer a more threatening focal point up top on Sunday.
