Carlo Ancelotti is back on Merseyside, and the former Everton manager has wasted little time winding up Liverpool supporters.
Amid all the uncertainty surrounding the managerial position at Everton at the moment, one of the club’s many former bosses from previous years is back on Merseyside.
It must still boggle the mind of many Evertonians that Ancelotti was at one time the club’s manager.
Having gone on to lift multiple UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid since his departure from Goodison Park, a lot of Everton fans must surely be left thinking what could have been.
And it appears as though the Toffees still remain very much in the heart of Ancelotti.
The 65-year-old is back on Merseyside as Real Madrid prepare to take on Everton’s rivals Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday [27 November].
And while speaking to the press ahead of this huge clash, Ancelotti said [via Lewis Steele, 26 November], “I am still an Evertonian.”
Carlo Ancelotti sends message to Everton supporters at Goodison Park
Steele’s tweet was flooded by replies from Liverpool fans who could perhaps be considered to be a bit rattled by Ancelotti’s comments.
And Everton fans will no doubt be delighted to see one of their former managers winding up the fanbase of the club’s greatest rivals.
While Ancelotti’s time at Goodison Park didn’t prove to be the success many hoped it would have been, many fans will still remember the Real Madrid boss fondly.
And they will be hoping he doesn’t come back to haunt them, after a recent Real Madrid transfer twist involving Jarrad Branthwaite [via TEAMtalk, 25 November].
However, for now, it seems as though Ancelotti is focused on beating Liverpool, a mission which all Everton fans can get behind.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche could be sacked within a “couple of weeks”.
