Everton will be in a race against the clock to tie Dominic Calvert-Lewin down to a new contract after Newcastle United’s transfer plans were shared by Craig Hope.

The Toffees striker hasn’t had the best season at Goodison Park but that didn’t stop interest from the Mapgies, who were reportedly chasing him ahead of January (TEAMtalk).

That interest became a concern for Everton when Hope revealed that Callum Wilson is sidelined with injury with the expectation that the Magpies will now move for Calvert-Lewin.

The report states that: “For now, Newcastle will not change their January transfer plans.”

However, with Calvert-Lewin out of contract in June it sparks the need for the Toffees to urgently sort a new deal for the 27-year-old given he can be snapped up for free in six months.

Everton must tie Calvert-Lewin down to a new deal

There is no hiding from the fact Calvert-Lewin has been below par this season but anyone who has watched Everton over the years will know that he has an abundance of quality that has been locked away under the dull football of Sean Dyche.

Despite what has been a poor campaign, it is believed Dyche isn’t under pressure to keep his job just yet but if he is to remain in post, unlocking the talent of his star striker will prove crucial.

With the news of Newcastle not prioritising a striker signing, the Merseyside club must utilise that to their advantage and tie Calvert-lewin down to a new deal before that stance changes.

If there is a striker capable of thriving again in the Premier League, it is him and the Toffees need to do all they can to retain his services.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made an exit decision on Beto.
