View: Rangers loanee can solve Koppen January worries amid transfer development

Rangers are in desperate need of a centre back in January and Nils Koppen may have the ideal option right under his nose.

The Gers have had an up-and-down campaign and now injuries have started to take their toll after Leon Balogun went off injured in the 2-1 loss to St Mirren on Boxing Day.

This could see the Light Blues’ technical director swoop for a central defender in the winter window, a move which Barry Ferguson has suggested [Daily Record].

The Govan club legend believes the Belgian and Patrick Stewart have to find Philippe Clement a new centre-back quickly, as soon as the transfer window opens.

Although new signings could come in at Ibrox, Koppen may already have a prime candidate available at Ibrox.

It is safe to say that finances may prove to be an issue in the winter window which could force the Light Blues’ board to get creative.

As a result, recalling loanees could prove to be a smart move with the hope of having a positive impact across the second half of the campaign.

One potential option is Davies who could represent an ideal option in terms of quality and finances to help bolster Clement’s squad.

The 29-year-old didn’t impress during his initial spell for the Gers but after six months away, could find his feet in the Scottish Premiership if handed a second chance.

The Englishman joined League One side Birmingham City on loan in the summer and has gone on to play his part with the Blues sitting top of the table.

After keeping nine clean sheets already this season, across all competitions, it is clear that this temporary which has benefitted his career prospects.

If Koppen could convince the former Preston man to return to Glasgow, there is every chance that he could hit the ground running and form part of the squad for the rest of the campaign.
