Rangers manager Philippe Clement has revealed that “experience” will be coming in future transfers after the Gers started their summer window swiftly.

As the 2023/24 season came to a close, the Glasgow-based outfit lost five of their players due to expiring contracts.

Since then, Clement has brought in six new signings in order to improve the Gers’ hopes of beating Celtic to the title this coming season.

The incomings, such as Connor Barron, have been on the younger side – but the Belgian has since promised that more experienced recruits will be added to his squad.

“We had five players going out of the club at the end of their contracts and we didn’t get any money in,” said Clement to RTV via the Daily Record [29 June].

“We lost five players but for the moment it was easier to get the young players. There will also be experience coming into the building and we need a good balance in the squad of both.

“It was important to find these young talents and I think we found some exciting talents for the future of this club. They are ready to play some minutes in the beginning but certainly in the next couple of years.”

Why Rangers should look towards making a move for Theo Bair this summer

As Clement said himself, although the Gers have made a fair few signings thus far, a couple of the acquisitions have been for the future.

However, one player who the club have been linked with in recent weeks is Theo Bair [The Athletic, 24 June].

Described as “unplayable” by Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell, the striker had a stellar season in the Scottish Premiership last term.

Across the 41 games he played in all competitions, he managed to involve himself with a total of 21 goals, which for a relegation-bound side is fairly remarkable.

Although Bair is still just 24, thanks to his two international caps for Canada and 136 domestic career appearances, the striker is experienced for his age – besides, even a 21-year-old is old by today’s standards.

He would help lead the attacking line and would instantly be able to mould into Clement’s tactical style.

In addition, thanks to his vast experience in Scotland’s top tier with both St. Johnstone and now Motherwell, he knows the league inside and out.

The Gers are evidently looking for an attacker this summer – and a more experienced one at that – meaning Bair could be the ideal candidate to lead the line.
