Robert Vilahamn would have been delighted to see Tottenham Women star Hayley Raso score for Australia Women on Sunday.

It has been a tough couple of months for Vilahamn’s side, who have lost five of their past seven matches.

However, they got back to winning ways last time out, as the North London side made it two wins from two in the Women’s League Cup group stage with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa Women at Brisbane Road on Saturday 23 November.

And there was some more good news for Spurs after Raso shone for Australia in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Brazil Women at the Robina Stadium [1 December], a match in which fellow Spurs stars Clare Hunt and Charlotte Grant also featured.

Despite defeat for her side, Raso performed well in front of her hometown crowd in Queensland.

Her strike in the 42nd minute cut the deficit in half after Gabi Portilho and Lauren had put Brazil 2-0 up Down Under.

In addition, as per Sofascore, Raso had a further four shots at goal, while she also completed 76 per cent of her passes, with three of those key. The Spurs star provided one accurate cross into the box and won seven duels, while also making five tackles.

There was room for improvement, with the 30-year-old giving the ball away 12 times, committing two fouls and being dribbled past twice. However, Raso’s overall display demonstrates she might be close to rediscovering her best form.

Raso has proven she can make an impact for Spurs already this season, and Vilahamn will be hoping that her form for Australia sees the forward return to North London with a much-needed confidence booster.

In other Tottenham news, the club want Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as Borussia Dortmund’s transfer stance emerges.
