Bayer Leverkusen secured a vital victory in their second matchday of the UEFA Champions League, ending a five-match winless home run against AC Milan, Soccernet.ng reports.
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface continued his impressive form, scoring the only goal of the match in the second half, which marked Leverkusen’s second consecutive UCL victory.
The Black-Reds came into this match following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at the San Siro, hoping a win against Leverkusen would help restore their confidence.
However, with this latest loss, AC Milan finds itself in a precarious position, facing potential early exit from the tournament in its new format.
The decisive moment came when Alex Garcia delivered a cross into AC Milan’s box. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan initially denied Jeremie Frimpong’s attempt, but Boniface was perfectly positioned to turn home the rebound from point-blank range, securing the win for the hosts.

Other Super Eagles players featured in the match, with Nathan Tella coming on as a late substitute for Florian Wirtz in the 90th minute, though he was unable to extend Leverkusen’s lead. Similarly, Samuel Chukwueze replaced Christian Pulisic in the second half for AC Milan but couldn’t make a significant impact for Paulo Fonseca’s side.
Looking ahead, AC Milan will aim to bounce back from these defeats when they face Club Brugge after the international break, hoping to regain their footing in the Champions League.
