Everton proved Darren Bent right on Wednesday night after what the talkSPORT pundit said before the 4-0 thrashing of Wolves live on air.
The Toffees strolled to a rare night of comfort at Goodison Park, demolishing Gary O’Neil’s hapless visitors by adding 40 percent more of their total goals in the Premier League season so far.
Bent made a prediction on Sean Dyche’s job security compared to that of O’Neil at Molineux, surprising co-host Andy Goldstein [talkSPORT, 4 December, 18:41] when they were discussing the match prior to the game.
“I would almost say that Sean Dyche is safer than Gary O’Neil potentially, because he’s shown he can keep them up,” the former striker explained.
Goldstein retorted: “Would you, would you really?!”
Sean Dyche enjoys dominant night for Everton v Wolves
There has seldom been a lot to cheer for Everton this season on the pitch, particularly in the way of matches like this one.
From start to finish, the Toffees put Wolves to the sword and cancelled out their dismal display at Old Trafford against Manchester United just three days prior.
It was a night for the defenders in more ways than one: Ashley Young’s free-kick got the ball rolling before James Tarkowski saw a second goal chalked off.
Craig Dawson had the misfortune of putting through his own net twice in the second half, with deep-lying midfielder Orel Mangala notching at Goodison for the first time to boot.
Dyche may have his words with his strikers after their own failure to score in such a convincing victory, but the three points are hugely welcome for a side still keeping their heads above water heading into the toughest of Merseyside derbies on Saturday lunchtime [7 December].
In other Everton news, Dwight McNeil is praised on TV for his astonishing impact.
