Graeme Bailey believes The Friedkin Group may decide to increase the capacity of the Everton Stadium as soon as their Premier League status is confirmed.

The Toffees are set to bid farewell to Goodison Park at the end of the season and move to Bramley-Moore Dock next year.

There has been some discontent regarding the 52,888-seating capacity of the new stadium, but speaking to Everton.News [29 October], journalist Bailey said he feels it’s an issue that can be fixed easily.

“I think that it’s something that, once the Premier League confirm their takeover, I imagine that doing it early doors when they just get into the stadium would make sense,” he said.

“I think once your Premier League status is confirmed I wouldn’t be that shocked. And, as you know, once that’s confirmed you can start selling the season tickets and stuff.

“I imagine it’s been built to allow expansion easily, so I imagine it’s a pretty easy issue to remedy if you need to put more seats on. It wouldn’t surprise me. Once Premier League status is confirmed I imagine that might become a thing.”

Everton moving to new stadium a positive step

The new Everton Stadium will be able to seat more fans than Goodison Park, which has a capacity of 39,572.

Although the argument for adding more seats is compelling, architect Dan Meis defended the decision when The Esk raised questions about it.

While it’s encouraging to see off-field developments from the Blues, what matters most to fans at the end of the day is what happens on the pitch.

Fans have had to endure far more negative moments than positive in recent years, with this season potentially shaping up to be another scrap to just avoid the drop.

So, the first thing the Goodison Park faithful will want to see from the new owners is an improvement on the pitch.

TFG’s takeover of the club is on track, as per Ben Jacobs [26 October], and it remains to be seen what their priority will be once they make their way to Merseyside.

In other Everton news, Ian Croll has warned the club about making a decision on the transfer of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January.
