'Wouldn't be wise' - Wenham urges Tottenham to refuse last-gasp transfer offer for senior ace

John Wenham doesn’t think it would be wise for Tottenham to sell Ben Davies to Galatasaray.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the Welshman’s experience and versatility are both key for Ange Postecoglou.

According to Turkish news outlet Takvim (9 September), Galatasaray are interested in a late move for Davies ahead of the Süper Lig transfer window closing on Friday (13 September).

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t want to see the 31-year-old sold.

“From Spurs’ point of view, this transfer wouldn’t be wise,” Wenham said.

“Letting someone of Davies’ experience go at this point wouldn’t be the right decision. He can cover in multiple positions across the backline.

“If Tottenham let him go now, they wouldn’t have an opportunity to replace him until January.”

Spurs have a busy schedule with the UEFA Europa League set to get underway later this month. Therefore, Postecoglou will need all the help he can get.

And a player of Davies’ experience could be very useful to have in the squad when the games begin to come thick and fast.

As a result, letting go of the Wales international doesn’t seem worthwhile at this point, with any fee unlikely to be substantial.

However, Davies is out of contract in North London next summer. Therefore, if the club want to avoid losing their long-serving star for free, they will need to find some sort of solution between now and the end of the season.
