£10m+ update emerges as Everton submit bid to seal new defender transfer - report

Everton have seen an offer for Jackson Tchatchoua worth £8million including add-ons rejected by Hellas Verona, according to Tutto Mercato.

The Italian newspaper reported via its website [22 July] that the Toffees offered £6.7million with £1.3million in add-ons but the Serie A side have requested a bid of £8.4million plus £1.7million in add-ons.

It is understood that Sean Dyche’s side could return with a new offer soon, one that Verona will accept this summer amid interest from other European clubs.

The full-back spots are possibly one of the weakest areas of Dyche’s team heading into the 2024/25 campaign, with Nathan Patterson still sidelined through injury.

Veteran duo Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman are currently the only two available natural right-backs at Goodison Park, which would suggest another defender could be brought in this summer.

Tchatchoua, 22, looks to be an exciting prospect after earning a permanent move to Italy following his season-long loan with Verona.

The right-back even has two international caps to his name, earning a call-up to the Cameroon squad in May and playing in both World Cup qualification matches against Cape Verde and Angola.

Considering the concerns surrounding the current options in the position, it seems like a no-brainer decision to bring in a young and talented full-back like Tchatchoua for such a low fee.

Of course, it will be almost impossible to find a deal like what the Toffees paid for Coleman back in 2009, but the Verona player could be an ideal signing for a relatively low cost.

Everton have seen their first offer for Jackson Tchatchoua rejected.

Whether Everton can sanction any transfers right now is up in the air, with Dan Friedkin pulling out on the takeover deal at Goodison Park – Everton insider Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News on 7 July that the takeover hit a “stumbling block” due to the money that was owed to 777 Partners.

But fans have every right to be excited about the potential signing of the 22-year-old.

In other Everton news, FIFA could block Manchester United’s deal to beat the Toffees to a new signing.
