Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Chelsea will have “25 agents knocking on the door every morning” thanks to their scattergun transfer policy.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – branded the Stamford Bridge club a “mess” and warned the situation has become “impossible to manage”.

Joao Felix arrived at Chelsea on Wednesday (21 August) to become the club’s 10th signing of the summer window.

Stars like Raheem Sterling, Tosin Adarabioyo and Ben Chilwell have been left out of the squad to face Servette in the Uefa Conference League on Thursday (22 August).

Enzo Maresca kicked off his new era in charge at Stamford Bridge with a 2-0 defeat against Man City on Sunday (18 August).

Wyness claimed Chelsea have a “big, big problem” with their squad as the 30 August transfer deadline draws near.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Chelsea, by my calculations, have about 53 players in the squad.

“Everton have 23. That gives you some idea of the disparity.

“Chelsea have acted like drunks in a casino, they’ve been going mad. It makes no sense.

“With all my football experience, knowing how players become unhappy and what we’ve already seen with Sterling – these things become impossible to manage.

“They’ll be at least 25 agents knocking on the door every morning trying to find out what’s going on with their client.

“These players can’t go to Maresca for an answer, because he doesn’t know.

“He doesn’t know what’s going on.

“I saw the film of Boehly leaving the ground on Sunday, he’s looking a very worried man – and so he should.

“It’s a real mess. I don’t think there’s any grand plan behind it, they’re just stockpiling quality in the hopes they can sell some.

“There aren’t many willing buyers with the PSR climate and the Saudi market drying up.

“They’ve got a big, big problem.”
