Aston Villa have a strong interest in Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez, sources have told Football Insider.
Villa have made an enquiry about the England international, but the club need to sell Diego Carlos before a deal can take place.
Source at the Midlands giants have told Football Insider that Gomez would be willing to move to Villa Park for a regular starting role, which he is unlikely to receive under Arne Slot.
Liverpool are holding out for a £40-45million offer and had previously tried and failed to use Gomez in a deal for Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.
The Reds are open to Gomez leaving the club this summer, but only if their price tag is met.
Aston Villa want to tap into Joe Gomez’s versatility
Gomez has the ability to play as a centre-back or on either flank as a full-back, providing real versatility to any squad he joins.
The England international was a regular under Jurgen Klopp last season, making 51 appearances in all competitions.
However, under Slot he has fallen down the pecking order which has opened the doors for a potential Anfield exit.
Gomez joined Liverpool in 2015 from Charlton and has made 224 appearances for the Premier League giants in all competitions.
The defender failed to make the match-day squad for Liverpool’s opening game of the Premier League season against Ipswich Town.
