Aaron Lennon has shared that Everton players have told him that Jarrad Branthwaite is “absolutely brilliant”.
The centre-back has been in the wars this season due to the injuries he’s suffered but has now finally made his way back into the first-team fold.
The Englishman was linked with a summer move away from Goodison Park but in the end, Sean Dyche managed to hold on to him.
Lennon admits it was good news for the Toffees to keep their star man, who will be vital to any chances of Premier League survival.
“He’s some talent, I speak to a few of the Everton boys and they say he’s absolutely brilliant,” he said live on talkSPORT (9 December, 09:27am).
“A few of the big clubs wanted him in the summer it looked like, he didn’t get that move, obviously he’s had a tough start with injuries this season but he’s vital to that team and he’s vital for them staying up this season.
“You look at him, Tarkowski, Pickford, Idrissa Gueye, Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, if you look down the spine of that team, it’s so solid and so important and the experience of Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman, for me they’ve got more than enough, but like you said, Branthwaite is a fantastic player.”
Jarrad Branthwaite could save Everton from relegation this season
If last season didn’t make it evident enough, Branthwaite’s inclusion in Dyche’s set-up is pivotal to whether they’ll remain a Premier League team this season.
Since the start of the 2024/25 campaign, the Englishman has had injury after injury which will have no doubt hindered his progress.
Indeed, Michael Keane slotted into the void left by the towering defender and formed a more than solid partnership with James Tarkwoski but it was clear that the Toffees missed Branthwaite.
He’s one of the best players within the squad and without him in their ranks last term, it’s hard to see how they’d still be a Premier League team.
With The Friedkin Group’s takeover now imminent, decisions are going to have to be made about the future of some of those within the Everton camp including where the future of Dyche lies.
If Branthwaite can continue to help shore things up, he could be the saviour the former Burnley boss has desired.
In other Everton news, a journalist has shared how The Friedkin Group could win Toffees fans over instantly.
