Sean Dyche is the man to prevent an “absolute disaster” and keep Everton in the Premier League this season, Aaron Lennon has said.
Speaking on talkSPORT (9 December, 9:24am) the ex-Toffees winger and Ally McCoist were in full agreement that relegation would be catastrophic for any future prospects.
The Blues’ stadium move to Bramley-Moore Dock is slated for the summer of 2025, but Lennon argued that with Dyche in the dugout, their final season at Goodison Park would result in Premier League safety.
Lennon said: “100 per cent, that must be the only aim this season – it’s to stay in the league.
“They’ve got the new stadium coming, and it would be an absolute disaster if they were to go down this season.
“I’m pretty confident they’ll stay in the league this season – the main thing for me is to stay in the league and for me, Sean (Dyche) is the man to do it.”
Everton need to build on new momentum to avoid ‘disaster’
Storm Darragh may have put paid to the Toffees’ chances of beating Liverpool on Saturday – forcing the match to be postponed before a ball had been kicked – but Dyche’s side remain on the crest of a wave.
Thumping Wolves 4-0 three days before their scheduled Merseyside derby, which would have been the final league match against Liverpool at Goodison, optimism is rarely this high for the Blues.
With Dan Friedkin’s takeover seemingly imminent and the January transfer window fast approaching, fans will be keen to see the club build on their recent momentum in the coming weeks.
Although the Toffees now have a game in hand on the sides around them – other than West Ham and Wolves who face off on Monday – pressure is still on Dyche to build a sizeable gap to the bottom three.
Dyche managed to do just that last term despite two points deductions, but with no such worries this time around, the onus is on his side to make the final season at Goodison Park one the fans can enjoy.
