'Absolutely brilliant' - Ally McCoist & Jeff Stelling stunned by what they saw Everton player do

Michael Keane has earned praise from Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling as Everton beat Ipswich Town 2-0 on Saturday (19 October).

The 31-year-old has been given an opportunity in the starting XI due to Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury issues, but he did not look out of place at the Toffees claimed all three points at Portman Road.

Following Iliman Ndiaye’s opener, Keane helped double the lead for Sean Dyche’s side, firing home an incredible effort from a narrow-angle and surprising everyone as the moment unfolded.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (21 October, 6:08am), Stelling said: “It was a goal out of the top drawer. Any striker would have been proud of it – it was absolutely brilliant.”

McCoist agreed, saying: “The only place it could have gone is that top corner, and it was with his left foot.”

With a total of 15 goals during his time at Goodison Park, and two of them coming this season, there should be little surprise to see the centre-back hit the back of the net.

Keane certainly has an eye for goal and that was on show for everyone to see at Portman Road as he fired past a helpless Arijanet Muric in the Ipswich goal.

Given the Toffees’ proximity to the relegation spots, securing all three points against the Tractor Boys was a crucial result before matches against Fulham, Southampton and West Ham.

Times looked dire for Dyche and his team following the opening four matches of the campaign, but after eight points from their last four games, the Toffees looked to have turned things around now.

Dyche can thank Keane for his role in the victory, having been key at both ends of the pitch, and the defender will be hoping he can remain in the starting XI moving forward.
