'Absolutely Exquisite' - McCann blown away by what Rangers ace did v Hearts

Neil McCann hailed Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers for his “absolutely exquisite” piece of quality in the goalless draw with Hearts.

Dessers controlled a pass brilliantly but ultimately could not find the back of the net in a moment that summed up Saturday’s (3 August) stalemate.

It was another day of frustration for Dessers, who kicked off the 2024-25 season with a blank, but McCann did like that one moment in particular.

“This is what we seem to be talking about with Cyriel Dessers quite a lot,” McCann said on BBC Sportscene [3 August].

“He’s a good teammate because he works hard. His first touch is absolutely exquisite here; his second one should be poked past Zander Clark.”

Dessers’ goal return in his first season at Ibrox was pretty decent all things considered, but there is no doubt he could have scored even more.

Games like this one against Hearts are where top-class strikers separate themselves from the rest by making a difference in a tight contest.

Dessers had his moments, and went as close as anyone to scoring, but ultimately he failed to do so and the Gers had to settle for a point.

Every Rangers fan will be hoping to see the Nigerian take the next step in his development this season, and that may still be the case.

However, Philippe Clement is surely aware that a prolific striker is still required before the summer transfer window closes for business.

Thankfully, there are still a few weeks left for the club to go out and do exactly that.
