'Absolutely Howling' - David Edgar blasts one Rangers player in draw v Union Berlin

David Edgar has blasted club captain James Tavernier for an incident during Rangers’ 4-4 draw with Union Berlin on Saturday (27 July).

The 32-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Trabzonspor this summer [The Rangers Review], was named in the starting XI for the Gers’ fourth pre-season friendly of the summer.

Up against Bundesliga opposition, Tavernier struggled against the Union Berlin winger and was caught out on multiple occasions, with one of those times seeing him slip over forcing Mohamed Diomade to give away a penalty.

Edgar, the founder of the Heart & Hand podcast, reacted via X on Saturday (27 July), writing: “Absolutely howling from Tavernier there.”

Is James Tavernier’s time up at Rangers?

Despite notching 24 goals and 12 assists in all competitions last season, the right-back looked to be struggling with the pace of some opposition wingers, with many fans wanting to see his exit this summer.

Dujon Sterling has already been tipped to fill his position, but his goal contributions will certainly be a difficult aspect to replace, having earned legendary status at Ibrox.

Having watched the moment against Union Berlin, however, it does seem that the time is right for the passing of the torch under Philippe Clement as the Belgian rebuilds the current squad.

Clement and Nils Koppen have already added the likes of Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane to the squad, which has dramatically reduced the average age of the squad.

Tavernier could just be the next victim of the Belgian’s remodelling of the team, and many fans are hoping for more bids to come in for the defender before the transfer window closes.

The passionate fans will also be hoping for a vast improvement in performance levels in general as the 2024/25 campaign draws closer, with the team avoiding defeat for the first time in four pre-season matches.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign Lyndon Dykes as two top targets are identified at Ibrox.
