James McFadden acknowledged Rangers’ form has picked up but says the next two games against Tottenham and Celtic are now “absolutely massive” for their season.
The Gers ran out convincing 3-0 victors at Ross County on Sunday with Hamza Igamane, Danilo and James Tavernier on target in Dingwall.
It means the gap to second-placed Aberdeen is now just two points, with Rangers owning a game in hand, but Celtic are still 11 points clear of Philippe Clement’s men.
Rangers next face Tottenham in the Europa League (12 December) before the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic next Sunday (15 December).
Speaking live on Sky Sports Football (8 December), McFadden said: “I think that it’s looking much better for Rangers now but the next two games are absolutely massive for them.
“I know that people say it’s going to be tough against Spurs in the Europa League but you don’t want to get battered off of Spurs and then you’ve got the much bigger one of the cup final next week but they go into that one with a bit of confidence, bit of belief that they can get a result.”
Celtic v Rangers now huge for Philippe Clement
There’s no doubt that Rangers have found a little bit of momentum having gone eight games unbeaten and won four in a row after the dismal 1-1 home draw with Dundee United last month.
Even the most ardent Gers supporter would probably admit the Scottish Premiership is beyond them this season, barring an almighty Celtic collapse and a prolonged run of form from Clement’s men.
But the next week could be huge for the football club. If they can get another good result in the Europa League against a strong Spurs side then the confidence going into next week’s cup final will be huge.
Moreover, if Clement can engineer victory against their great rivals and add a second League Cup winners medal to his resume then it might give him enough credit in the bank to continue his rebuild job.
If he loses that Celtic clash then it might be his head on the chopping block. The stakes could scarcely be higher.
In other Rangers news, Neil McCann was in disbelief at a ‘nightmare’ he saw in Ross County v Rangers.
