After Euro 2024 exit, Mikel Arteta should now accelerate deal to sign 'world class' player - opinion

Arsenal need to act fast and accelerate a deal to sign one of the best players on the continent.

Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar will be keeping close tabs on Euro 2024 in Germany as they look to bolster the squad ahead of the fast-approaching Premier League campaign in August.

They’re already on the verge of completing a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori who shone at the competition and now they must act quickly to sign another following his exit.

Arsenal need to accelerate talks to sign Joshua Kimmich

The hosts Germany bowed out of Euro 2024 on Friday as they suffered a late extra-time defeat to Spain, who advanced to the semi-finals of the competition where they will face France.

Joshua Kimmich, who featured in all of Germany’s games, has been linked with Arsenal, amongst other clubs across the Premier League, over the last few weeks.

It’s understood that he’s set to reject a new deal from Bayern Munich which leaves him with just a year left on his contract.

With that said, the 29-year-old is expected to depart this summer for a discounted fee said to be £25m, so Arsenal should be all over that deal especially considering they’re in need of a midfielder.

Edu must accelerate talks now that he’s out of the Euros before ahead of rival suitors.

Joshua Kimmich’s versatility would be perfect for Arsenal

Arteta is a big fan of versatile players and Kimmich certainly has that in abundance.

The 91-cap Germany international can operate at right-back or as a defensive and central midfielder, so his potential signing would give Arteta plenty of depth in a number of areas.

Labelled as ‘world class’ by Julian Nagelsmann via the Bundesliga website, Kimmich would be a real statement signing for The Gunners and one that’d put them that bit closer to a first Premier League title since 2004.
