Ange Postecoglou has a decision to make on Tottenham academy gem Will Lankshear.

The 19-year-old was in sensational form during the 2023/24 campaign for Spurs’ Under-21s.

He found the back of the net 32 times in all competitions as Tottenham lifted the Premier League 2 title.

As a result of his superb form, the forward was named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season, and plenty of supporters at the club will no doubt have high hopes for the youngster.

Therefore, those same supporters would have been delighted to discover through an official announcement via the club’s website on Saturday (13 July) that Lankshear had signed a five-year contract with the club.

It demonstrates that he feels at home in North London after joining Spurs from Sheffield United in 2022.

And now that Lankshear has put his faith in the club, Postecglou must respond by putting similar faith in the player himself during Spurs’ pre-season tour.

Ange Postecoglou must hand Will Lankshear an opportunity at Tottenham

Spurs need a reliable number nine, and although Lankshear is still young, he has certainly proven that he is ready for a first-team opportunity.

Therefore, Postecoglou should make sure to take the England Under-19 international on Spurs’ pre-season tour this month so that he can take a closer look at him.

With the UEFA Europa League to come next season, there will be plenty of chances for Lankshear to get some first-team minutes under his belt.

Will Lankshear has signed a new contract with Tottenham

Harry Kane wasn’t much older when he burst onto the scene, and Postecoglou should use that as an example that Lankshear could also do something similar.

There might be some temptation to send him out on loan, but after Lankshear’s show of loyalty to the club, Postecoglou should resist that temptation and see what the striker is made of.

In other Tottenham news, Ipswich Town are expected to move for an exit-linked defender at the club.
