Bryan King believes an agreement between Tottenham and Everton is irrelevant unless Dele Alli is willing to put in the work to earn a new deal at Goodison Park.
The ex-Spurs scout has suggested that it is now up to the player to work hard and return to his previous levels.
As reported by Football London (14 July), an agreement has been reached which means the Toffees would not need to make an immediate payment to Tottenham should they agree on a new deal with Alli.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is more interested in what the player himself intends to do.
“Does Alli want to work hard and earn himself a deal with Everton? All of this rests with the player himself,” King said.
“This is an incredibly important time in his career. Does he want to continue playing at the highest level and rediscover his best form?
“If he doesn’t, then all of this is irrelevant anyway.”
Tottenham and Everton reach brand-new agreement over Dele Alli
Alli is now out of contract with the Toffees, but he is continuing to train with the club.
Under the terms of his initial move to Goodison Park, a fee was to be paid to Tottenham if the player and club agreed a new contract.
However, that is no longer the case, and that could therefore make it easier for Alli to earn himself a deal with Everton.
As a result, Spurs would also stand to gain from that agreement in North London, due to other various performance-related terms in their deal with Everton for Alli.
All eyes will therefore now be on the player and whether or not he can get himself back to a high standard.
In other Tottenham news, the club could be handed a “huge boos ” after a £40million Ivan Toney update.
