Craig Moore has told Rangers and Philippe Clement to take their medicine and hold talks to reintegrate Ianis Hagi back into the first-team squad.
The Romanian international is keen to stay at Ibrox but has been left out of Clement’s plans reportedly because of a clause in his contract which would see him handed a wage increase if he makes more competitive starts [Sky Sports, 12 August].
Although there doesn’t appear to be a way back for the attacking midfielder under the Belgian, Go Radio pundit Moore has urged the Light Blues to reach some sort of agreement for him to return to the fold.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (20 August, 9:20) he said: “You can only assume that there’s an increase that would come to Hagi if he was involved in a competitive match.
“I just feel at this moment in time, that’s a conversation. Sit around the table and say are you going to improve my starting XI? 100 per cent he will improve the Rangers starting XI, so there’s your starting point.
“So how can we facilitate that, how can we make that happen and I just feel that’s maybe not a conversation that’s happened and it if it hasn’t, I encourage that it does happen because he’s going to improve Rangers’ starting XI.
“The win is that the player is now involved, which obviously then helps his value, which helps him then get out the door which helps Rangers.
“You’ve got to think sometimes and be willing to take your medicine. At times that’s management.”
Will Ianis Hagi exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer rumours?
As Moore suggests, it is clear that Hagi would make this Gers squad stronger at this moment in time, especially given the lack of options available to Clement to feature in the number 10 role currently.
The Romanian international has been impressing in the B Team and while the standard of football can be called into question, he feels like a better fit for that position currently than Tom Lawrence who has struggled for consistency.
If some sort of agreement could be reached between all parties, there is no obvious reason that Hagi shouldn’t be playing week in and week out for the Gers, particularly if he wants to remain in Glasgow.
Maybe it is about time that Clement and those around him took their medicine and negotiated with the attacking midfielder to reach some sort of agreement.
After all, playing in the reserves and being nowhere near the Gers’ first-team squad isn’t helping the Light Blues or the player himself at this stage of the summer transfer window.
In other Rangers news, Cyriel Dessers has reportedly turned down the opportunity to leave Ibrox ahead of the transfer deadline
