John Wenham has been left shocked as Han Willhoft-King closes in on a move to Manchester City following his release from Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has praised the 18-year-old’s agent for lining him up with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (2 July), City have agreed a deal to sign Willhoft-King, with the midfielder set to pen a two-year contract.

Willhoft-King turned down a contract offer from Spurs ahead of his release from the club.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has wished the player the best of luck ahead of joining City.

“Praise has to go to his agent because this is a fantastic move for the player,” Wenham said.

“He spent a lot of time behind George Abbott and Tyrese Hall while with Spurs.

“However, he was offered a new deal, but I don’t know whether that was to ensure the club got a compensation fee or because they genuinely wanted to keep him.

“He only changed his agent around a month ago, so this is a great start for them, and best of luck to him.

“It is a big surprise, but hopefully he pushes on and becomes a real player with City.”

It is not every day you see a player leave Spurs for free and go ahead and sign for City.

Although supporters in North London likely won’t want to hear this, it is hard not to agree that this is a step forward for Willhoft-King, rather than a step back.

Having let this player slip through their fingers and then watched him go and sign for City, the club will be hoping they don’t live to regret losing Willhoft-King.

If he goes on to make a name for himself with the Premier League champions, supporters will perhaps question how Tottenham managed to let him get away.
