Aiden McGeady claims that Rangers no longer provide the same competition to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
With problems on and off the pitch, the Gers have struggled to live up to expectations this season and currently sit third in the table with Aberdeen and Celtic above them.
Although Rangers haven’t won the Scottish Premiership since 2021, the competition appears to be lessening with each passing year.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene [7 December, 18:50], McGeady claimed: “It’s a funny one because look the competition isn’t quite the same I don’t think as it was when the likes of we all played, I don’t think it’s quite the same, especially from Rangers.”
Rangers have fallen from grace
This season has seen Rangers take a real dip, which hasn’t been helped by things going on behind the scenes at Ibrox.
It was a positive Sunday for the Gers though, beating Ross County 3-0 at the Global Energy Stadium and moving within two points of Aberdeen with a game-in-hand.
The future of Philippe Clement at Ibrox has been consistently discussed as he has failed to perform consistently, at times putting in some really poor performances.
With their arch-rivals running away with the league, it must be a sobering reminder to the Gers hierarchy that things need to seriously step up at Ibrox to bring success back to the club.
McGeady wasn’t wrong in his analysis but Rangers fans won’t be happy at how far they have fallen, albeit with slow signs of improvement now.
More needs to be done to keep this going, with the results against Tottenham and Celtic this week to go a long way to deciding the future of Clement at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, a restructuring is on the cards as a £10million development has emerged.
