Alan Brazil aims dig at Rangers live on talkSPORT ahead of EL showdown v Malmo

Rangers were the subject of an Alan Brazil one-liner as they prepare to play Malmo FF in the Europa League on Thursday.

Speaking on TalkSPORT with Gabby Agbonlahor (26 September, 8:29am), Brazil joked that Philippe Clement’s side could soon be stopped from playing, amid the off-field turmoil currently engulfing Ibrox.

The Gers face a Malmo side who are currently 11 points clear at the top of the Allsvenskan with only six games remaining, due to the Swedish League running through the European summer rather than winter.

After being told this, Brazil said: “Some say Rangers have only got six games left!”

Europa League victory can mask off-field drama at Rangers

The most important thing about any and every football is what happens on the pitch, but Gers fans could be forgiven for forgetting that at times due to the sheer number of off-field issues the club are facing.

Clement’s side head to Malmo for the first of eight matches in the new league phase of the Europa League following a 3-0 win over Dundee, but stories continue to swirl on the boardroom drama at Ibrox.

Rangers have undergone a turbulent last few months dominated by long-standing off-field issues

With John Bennett’s resignation, the club’s long-standing CEO and academy director vacancies, and the delayed redevelopments to Ibrox itself, it’s not hard to see why the Gers have become the butt of jokes.

However, a win in Sweden to get their Europa League campaign off to a strong start will, for the time being, go some way towards focusing attention back onto where it truly matters – the pitch.

In other Rangers news, one in-form Light Blue looks to be closing in on making his long-awaited return to the international steup.
