Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers admits he’s not heard anything surrounding Everton signing Carlos Soler.
The Toffees are understood to be in hot pursuit of the 27-year-old as it’s reported that they’ve made an inquiry into signing the PSG midfielder. [HITC]
After selling Amadou Onana to Aston Villa, the Merseyside outfit have been in the market for a new midfielder.
Myers wrote on X: “Not aware of that one.”
Everton must avoid Carlos Soler and look at alternatives
The Toffees have to be cautious as their history with budget constraints suggests that the high cost of acquiring Soler might not be prudent, especially without guaranteed performance returns.
Tactically, Soler’s style as a creative midfielder might clash with Sean Dyche’s preferred direct and physical gameplay, potentially leading to the underutilisation of the 27-year-old’s skills and disrupting the team’s current dynamics.
While injury concerns for Soler aren’t explicitly documented, the general wariness around players with potential injury issues adds a layer of risk to his signing.
Moreover, the immediate needs might not align with what Soler offers, pointing towards other positional priorities.
With West Ham also in the fray, pursuing the Spaniard’s services could embroil Everton in an unwanted bidding war, inflating costs further and diverting resources from more pressing squad reinforcements.
It also seems like their interest isn’t as advanced so this one is unlikely to happen, as things stand.
In other Everton news, a player the Toffees want to sign is pushing for an exit and has already handed in a transfer request.
