Jeff Stelling clashes with Everton fan live on air over Sean Dyche sack verdict

Jeff Stelling has clashed with an Everton supporter and shared his verdict on whether or not the Toffees should sack Sean Dyche.

The Toffees got their Premier League season off to a disappointing start with a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at Goodison Park and are looking to bounce back when they travel to Tottenham on Saturday (24 August).

One frustrated Blues supporter, Tony, believes the Toffees would benefit from a change in the dugout, but talkSPORT host Stelling believes Dyche deserves more time given his work so far on Merseyside.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (22 August, 8:36) he said: “Sean Dyche needs to go? Is that what you said Tony?

“You had a points deduction last season and he still kept you up. Without that points deduction you’d have finished in midtable.

“You’ve only had one game so far, Tony.”

While every Everton supporter would have been disappointed with the Toffees’ display against Brighton, Stelling is right to suggest Dyche deserves more time to turn things around given his previous exploits.

It felt as though the world was against the Blues last term, but somehow the former Burnley manager kept his side in the Premier League. It may not have been pretty, but he managed to get the desired result.

While the Toffees haven’t spent loads this summer, they have backed Dyche with several signings and those new players will need time to bed into the fold at Goodison. This team should only improve as the season continues.

Hopefully, those in charge at the top of the football club will follow Stelling’s advice and give Dyche more time to get the season up and running. It would be a huge mistake to make a change so early on in the season.
