Kevin Malone is unlikely to be funding any deal any time soon as his consortium aims to launch an Everton takeover bid, according to Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports news editor reported on 22 July that Malone, who is the former LA Dodgers General Manager, is leading a consortium which is set to table a bid for the club in the coming weeks.
This comes after the club issued an official announcement on 19 July that the Friedkin Group were no longer in the running to complete the takeover.
Myers wrote on X: “If I may enlighten a bit, I don’t think there is any suggestion he would be funding any deal anytime soon tbf.”
Kevin Malone may not be the ideal owner for Everton
There undoubtedly are benefits of having Malone on board, given his experience in managing a major sports franchise and his potential to bring financial stability to the Toffees.
His background in baseball could bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the club.
However, he lacks direct experience in football, which is a vastly different sport with unique challenges and dynamics.
Additionally, the consortium would need to navigate Everton’s existing financial issues and the complexities of the Premier League’s ownership rules.
He’s also been out of professional sport with him fighting for social causes over the past few years.
What the Toffees need is someone who is capable of building a successful sporting franchise recently and a proven track record and a data-driven approach to transform the side.
If Malone is in it just as a business opportunity, he’s already expected to be unpopular among the fans.
