Leicester City’s dressing room doesn’t have a say in Steve Cooper’s future amid rising pressure at the King Power Stadium.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that any decision on his future is purely down to results.
Whispers about him began during pre-season but have intensified recently due to the poor start to the season, with fans also vocally booing the Leicester boss.
Leicester City plays won’t decide Steve Cooper’s future
“I don’t think the dressing room really have a say,” he told Football Insider.
“There’s certain clubs where the owners and the board have eyes and ears in the dressing room if you like, and word always gets back.
“There’s always somebody in the boardroom that has eyes and ears or an ally if you like in the dressing room, they’ll always be asking what things are like.
“But it’s results on the pitch, results on the pitch make everything better.
“If you as a manager put on a training session and you’re doing training during the week and you lose on a weekend and you do the same again next week and the performance isn’t great and you lose again, the dressing room it’s ‘what we doing this for, that training isn’t very good.’
“All of a sudden if you train and actually even if you train into poor all week and you think, manager’s clueless, these sessions aren’t very good, but you’re winning three or four nil on a weekend, that soon gets forgotten and everybody buys into what the manager’s doing, it’s all about results.
“You want the dressing room to buy into what you do. You hold a room, you walk into a room, you hold a team meeting, you present yourself as a manager, your man-management skills, the way you speak to the players, the way you deal with players, the way you treat players, it goes a long way to that.
“But the huge part of it is results because as soon as you start winning and you’re putting results back to back, things start happening and everybody buys into what you’re doing.
“The players that they’ve got, I think they’re good enough to do that, especially without the points deduction.
“But for Steve Cooper, it’s huge. Results are what count.”
