Ally McCoist has tipped his hat to Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham beat Manchester City and Aston Villa in the space of three days.
Spurs had a splendid weekend as they followed their 2-1 EFL Cup victory over City with a 4-1 comeback win against Aston Villa at home in the Premier League on Sunday (3 November).
McCoist termed Tottenham’s performances in those two games as “terrific” and stressed that Postecoglou needs to be given due credit considering the Greek-Australian often comes under criticism.
“When it works like the way it worked yesterday, he has got to get the credit because we can’t just give him stick, saying ‘You’re not changing, there is no plan B’, we can’t just go like that and then not give him credit when it does work for it,” McCoist said on talkSPORT (4 November, 9:14 am).
“The last couple of games, it’s been great, absolutely terrific against Manchester City, and that second-half performance [against Villa].”
Ally McCoist tips hat to Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou
Postecoglou’s reluctance to tweak his tactics according to the opposition has attracted criticism on multiple occasions since he took the reins at Tottenham last year.
However, the former Celtic boss has no plans to change and would do the same even if he was at Barcelona or a League One club.
The 59-year-old is instead focused on delivering success in North London, with a trophy triumph on his radar this season (Sky Sports, 17 September).
His comments about always winning silverware in his second season in a job attracted significant attention, but there is a high chance that he will keep his word.
Having beaten Manchester City, Tottenham have qualified for the quarter-finals of the League Cup and will now face Manchester United for a semi-final berth.
They are also one of only three clubs to have won each of their three UEFA Europa League games so far this season, thus making them an early contender to win the competition.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are readying a shock move to sign this player from North London rivals Arsenal.
