Ally McCoist believes problems at Rangers run deeper than Philippe Clement, with the club without a permanent chairman and CEO.
John Gilligan is currently the interim chairman of the Light Blues after John Bennett stepped down earlier this year, and the Bears also lost James Bisgrove and Creag Robertson followed.
Clement has come under severe criticism after a poor start to the season, but speaking on talkSPORT [5 November, 6:39], McCoist feels the uncertainty at the top at Ibrox is reflecting on the pitch.
“The problems at Rangers go further than the manager and a lot deeper,” he said.
“I think they’ve got to get things sorted out at the top level before anything else. It works its way down. No full-time chairman, chief executive, director of football, none of that happening in this moment of time.”
Rangers need massive changes at Ibrox
Clement hasn’t done himself any favours with the way the team have performed since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
It’s not a surprise to see questions being raised about the Belgian’s future at the club, although a recent report from the Daily Record [1 November] suggested that the Rangers hierarchy aren’t looking to get rid of the head coach as things stand.
The Ibrox faithful have seen enough, though, and it doesn’t look like Clement has the wherewithal to take this team forward.
While the instability at the top has affected the on-pitch performances, with the recruitment being poor in recent windows, the Belgian has failed to get the best out of the players at his disposal.
Some of Clement’s recent decisions, like his reliance on James Tavernier despite the defender’s poor displays, show that he lacks the courage to make changes.
It’s only a matter of time before Clement is relieved of his duties at the Light Blues if things continue, but the more pressing issue should be how the Bears decide to restructure with the apparent lack of leadership at the top.
In other Rangers news, the club have been given an extra incentive to win the Scottish League Cup Final.
