Ally McCoist shares 'Devastating' verdict after Celtic loss, says what Rangers need to do

Ally McCoist believes that Rangers desperately need to find leaders in order for them to get anything out of the 2024/25 season following the defeat to Celtic.

Rangers lost 3-0 against arch-rivals Celtic on Sunday [1 September], with Philippe Clement extending his poor run of form against the Bhoys.

With the first Old Firm game of the season feeling something like deja vu, there’s no doubt that Clement will want to gain vengeance before the end of the term.

And speaking live on talkSPORT [2 September, 9;20], McCoist failed to offer any solutions for his beloved Gers side aside from the fact that they need to find a leader.

“I’m swerving it [what do Rangers do next] because that was disappointing at the weekend, I mean it was devastating,” McCoist said.

“Celtic didn’t even look like they’d gotten out of second gear. We’re just lacking leadership.”

Philippe Clement needs to find a solution for Rangers as soon as possible

Despite the Gers making a fair few new additions to their squad over the course of the summer transfer window, it still hasn’t changed their fortunes against arch-rivals Celtic.

Since Steven Gerrard exited Ibrox, it’s felt as if Rangers don’t have much to cheer about. Michael Beale was brought in after Giovanni van Bronckhorst to try and bring both the players and fans together and spur them on but evidently this didn’t work.

Clement’s first season in charge of the club was full of ups and downs while the start of his first full season has not been much better thus far.

The Glasgow-based outfit are currently residing in fourth place, five points adrift from the top spot.

The Belgian even included new arrivals Connor Barron and former FC Twente ace Robin Propper during Sunday’s [1 September] Old Firm clash but Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic had far too much quality.

Things need to change soon otherwise the Gers could find themselves out of the title race before January even comes around.

In other Rangers news, a BBC journalist has singled out Cyriel Dessers after what he did v Celtic.
